Pragmatics

Social Language

Pragmatics relates to social skills, unwritten rules and non-verbal cues.

Body language, facial expressions, and sarcasm are all parts of pragmatic language.

Understanding and using these skills appropriately can be difficult for some children.

Speech therapy should be considered for students who have difficulties holding conversations with peers, or using language for a variety of purposes (greetings, informing, asking questions, etc.).

Remember, you are the expert of your child. Consult with a speech language pathologist if you have any questions or concerns.
