Feeding
Feeding
Feeding relates to the developmental progression of swallowing and eating.
Children who are struggling to met feeding milestones may demonstrate food aversion or refusal. They may require extended time to complete meals. Children may have difficulty accepting new food textures, difficulty with age appropriate foods or demonstrate signs of anxiety during meal times.
Independent Eating
Feeding
Speech language pathologists can focus on the skills necessary to manipulate and swallow new foods as well as achieve age-appropriate eating skills to work towards enjoyable and stress-free mealtimes.
Clinicians at Hart Therapy Services are trained in the CAN-EAT approach (a pediatric approach to feeding and swallowing), AEIOU approach (acceptance, exposure, independence, observation and understanding for integrated treatment of infants and young children with challenging feeding disorders using sensory, oral motor, biomedical and environmental strategies), Get Permission™ approach, in Lori Overland’s TalkTools® Feeding Therapy: A Sensory-Motor Approach, and in Feeding and Swallowing Disorders in Infancy: Assessment and Management.
