Play with Cars to Grow Language

Cars can be a great activity to target language goals.

Start here: lay out a few cars and get on the floor with your child. Observe to see what the child does and mimic some of the actions. Take a few cars and push them across the room. “Park” cars or have them crash into each other modeling “aahhhh” or “oh-no”. As you play with cars model “go”, “stop”. Model words like “again”, “fast”, and “more”.

Adding more: as children are using first words, celebrate those while playing. add one or two words to encourage language expansion. If your child says “go”, smile and say “go fast”.
